Fashion Designer, Perfectual Linnan Labik picked the Gold Coast Restaurant & Cocktail Bar— the ultimate venue to entertain with an Afro twist, whatever the occasion — for their runway show, and the venue was a fitting choice for this cultural, afro-centric, romantic collection that seeks to combine Traditional Northern Ghana fashion with Modern Fashion trends.
They called it #NorthernZebra, in reference to the BLACK and WHITE that is often seen on the body of the elegant wild Zebra. “There is a slightly Zebra element to the collection,” I thought – this will be a Jam on storesradar.com, an authentic E-Commerce for online fashion store – also, the surrounding was also meant to reflect the culture of the lineup collection, which referenced old Ghana, pre- and post-revolutionary Gold Coast. The dark lightening and vast cylindrical “African straw umbrella hut” within the Gold Coast Restaurant & Cocktail Bar only added to the brooding, old-world mood, enhanced by the DJ’s modern tunes, giving you a taste of both worlds during the show.
A delicate BLACK and WHITE pattern bloomed through the collection. It covered a feminine trouser, a jacket with a trouser for both sexes and a black and white-colored dress for official and outdoor purposes. Meanwhile, geometric patterns for scarves were based on the culture of the northern part of Ghana. They will be available to buy immediately on storesradar.com, which partnered on the runway show and covered the event live on social media.
The event ended with a brief speech from the Founder of ROOTS by Linnan, Perfectual Linnan Labik, who explained that “ROOTS by Linnan is not just a clothing brand, it is a story, a culture, a lifestyle. Every piece is a story being told by its people… 50% of every purchase goes into the NORTHERN EDUCATION SUPPORT INITIATIVE fund, which seeks to help improve the face of quality education in the 3 northern regions of Ghana,” an organization set up by her.
